  TAIWAN

- the beautiful island -

- Kaohsiung -

Kaohsiung is Taiwan's second biggest city, and has a big natural port through which most of Taiwan's huge export and import takes place.
Therefore there is also a lot of industry.
However, - actually within the city -, you can find places where the modern World seems to have stopped, - and you are in a another world - - - -
One such place is the Lotus Lake, - a small, man made lake surrounded by traditional Chinese temples, - including a huge Confucius Temple, pagodas, bridges and pavilions, - and of course the lotus vegetation that gives name to the lake.
The lake was made in the 1950's, - so nothing is really antique here, - but it is all made in traditional Chinese style, - and well worth a visit - - -

Here I will post some shots from this lovely lake, - and the magnificent architecture that line it's coast, - all pictures from 1977 - - -

The Dragon and Tiger are hollow, - and serve as access to the pagodas
It is supposed to bring good luck if you enter through the Dragon, - and leaves through the Tiger -
