"The Ships"
featuring
My ship, - "Kit Yu"
- a classic Nordic Folk boat, - and the 3rd. year of upgrading -
(Leading up to "Kit Yu's" 50 years birthsday next year.)
The upgrading and thorough check-up
of "Kit Yu", - which I originally planned to last one season -, has
now lasted three, but with a lot of satisfaction I can now finally announce
that I finished all the jobs that I planned for three years ago.
But better late than never! :-)
Special jobs done this year,
- 2012 -, are scraping, cleaning and coating the entire center section
of the inner hull, - and changing out the two 5 mm thick steel wires that
support the mast sideways. They were replaced with 7 mm wires, which
are more correct.
That's it! All special jobs
done!
Does that mean that I am now
finished?
No, - certainly not, - you
NEVER finish with a boat -, but for the time being the "extra" jobs are
done, - but all the routine jobs are still there, and the next thing on
the agenda will be to fix up her appearance.
The coming year, - 2013 -,
will therefore be a year with a lot of sanding, grinding and varnishing,
so that "Kit Yu" is not only in good and sound condition, - but also looks
good. But this is actually normal routine work, - I just did not
have time to do this properly the previous years.
And the coming year, - 2013
-, is a very special year for "Kit Yu"! In 2013 it will be 50 years
ago her keel was laid, - and I must say, that she has kept her appearance
very well for a 50 year old lady!
With love, care and good maintenance
I am sure that she can last my life time! I would hate to see her "die"!
Hopefully she can finally end up in a museum.
What I do NOT want to see is,
that "Kit Yu" is broken up and ending up as fire wood!

Here the inner hull and keel
exposed, so that I could inspect, scrape, clean and coat all compartments.
This is a bigger job than one might expect.
That's why it took me three
years! :-)
The good thing is, that you
can work here regardless of what the weather is like outside.

This concludes the story of
how the upgrading of "Kit Yu" proceeded, - and lasted three years instead
of only one as planned. Then the story should end, but I might add more
pages later, - maybe describing some great trips, flying over the ocean
to wonderful islands?
Actually it is "Kit Yu's" 50
years birthday next year, - and that could be a good excuse to do something.
Lets see what I find out - - - -
