The "Race" Round Fyn - 2010
I am entering a state of panic
now, because I realize, that in a couple of weeks the traditional "race"
round island Fyn 2011 will take place, - AND NOW, - AFTER ALMOST A YEAR
HAS PASSED -, I HAVE NOT YET FOUND TIME TO ADD SOME PICTURES OF LAST
YEARS "RACE"! Busy, busy, busy - - - Time flies - -
But now I have started to do
something about it, and hopefully I will work a lot faster with the coming
pics from the "race" 2011 - - - -
The "race" that year, - 2010
-, was very different from the previous years "races", since the route
around our beautiful island Fyn, this time was performed clockwise instead
of the usual counterclockwise tradition.
Reason was, that the old bridge
across Lillebælt, - the Little Belt -, had "birthday", - 75 years
-, and in order to add some extra spice to the celebrations concerning
this anniversary, it was agreed, that the traditional sailing ships this
year should approach Middelfart from the south, because that would enable
them to pass the bridge with all sails set.
This stunning view would be
a suitable "gift" and a great "Happy Birthday" to honor the old bridge
with its 75 years in service - - -
Another thing that was not as
it usually would be was my normally faithful motor boat.
It needed a new gasoline tank,
- a new battery, - and some new gasoline hose sections in order to be in
good condition for service.
Not a big deal, but I had been
extremely busy with my old sail boat, - hence the motor boat became somewhat
neglected. (It's of course fixed now!)
With no fast going boat to
intercept and circle the traditional sailing ships, I decided to watch
the approach through Lillebælt from a cliff just before the bend
with the old bridge, - and Middelfart.
The view from there is excellent,
but at that time of the day, the sun would be shining straight into my
camera lens, and that might ruin some shots.
However, - when the big day
came, there was enough clouds to partly cover the sun, and it was in fact
possible to make some decent shots of the ships, - and not only that:
Sometimes the light playing between the clouds and reflecting in the water,
created some quite good and beautiful situations in spite of the fact that
I had to photograph against the sun.
Please enjoy some of my pictures

This beautiful three masted
topsail schooner is apparently new to the "race", since no ship by that
name had previously joined.
However, - behind the new coat
of black paint, she is actually the same as the green painted schooner
"Madonna", but since last "race" "Madonna" was sold to a new owner that
not only changed her paint work, but also changed her name to "Zar".
